Immediate Media is a large-scale special interest content and
platform company whose 70+ multiplatform brands reach over
16 million readers. Rhapsody was asked to perform a discovery
of the reprographics team, who are responsible for 30 titles, to
see where improvements could be made to IM’s processes and
the technology involved.

Encompassing monthly and weekly titles from the much-loved
Radio Times magazine to BBC Good Food, Gardener’s World and
You and Your Wedding, the Immediate team would process
10,000 images and 25,000 pages on average per year using
several different tech solutions. Workflows also included a host of
ingrained manual processes, which, despite being time-consuming
and inefficient, the staff and management knew
well and were understandably reluctant to change.

Rhapsody suggested improvements to the workflow, technology
and team which generated cost savings of 26%. The streamlining
process included offering an IT solution that would enable
Immediate Media to have copies of every image and file that
Rhapsody processed on its behalf.
By developing a separate server that both companies could
access, we were able to solve this issue to the mutual satisfaction
of both parties. Rhapsody also introduced Immediate Media to
our Engine technology which helped teams work on one set of
files cohesively in a smooth and streamlined manner.

Core Immediate Media staff were
TUPE'd over to Rhapsody in order
to retain key knowledge about the
individual titles on offer and the
processes involved. Rhapsody was
able to offer the support of our
production hubs in London and Poland
in order for Immediate Media to
reduce internal headcount and the
associated costs (including HR costs
and office space/device costs that
many businesses overlook).

Rhapsody work with IM on a flex-priced retainer that allows for
volumes of work to increase and decrease as is typical in the print
media industry. We came to a mutually agreeable cost that
enabled Rhapsody to deliver proven efficiencies that improved
