Global Blue is a tax-free shopping company that produces the
luxury travel and fashion guide, SHOP Magazine. SHOP grew
from a portfolio of four destination-specific guides in 2009, to
almost 50 biannual editions and a team of 35 people over the
course of ten years. As print media began to decline, Global Blue
sought to make cost and workflow efficiencies. By 2019, SHOP
decreased to 26 key titles produced by a team of 13 internal staff.

Rhapsody were offered the chance to do a 4-week discovery to
find out where we could improve Global Blue’s production
workflow. This was mostly conducted onsite via staff interviews
to help us understand the business and any pain points in the
creation of the magazine. We built a presentation highlighting
how we could improve the production workflow by utilising our
internal design, production and print teams.

By bringing key staff under the Rhapsody umbrella, we were
able to ensure that the
impeccable quality of SHOP,
from the high-end tone of the
written word to the elevated
print quality, was retained.

Many of the key suppliers remained in place for the same reason,
though other translation providers were considered.
Rhapsody were also able to draw upon the creative talents of our
internal team to produce bespoke cover illustrations for six of
the editions.

After taking on the production of SHOP in December 2019, and
moving the SHOP staff to a new company when production on
the titles had already begun, the team successfully sent 18 spring/
summer 2020 titles to print, despite production
moving from the office to the team’s homes.

After providing huge cost savings to Global Blue, Tomas Mostany,
the company’s Senior Vice President provided the following
testimonial: ‘Global Blue contracted Rhapsody to publish our
SHOP Magazine titles, which we had produced in-house for a
decade, and in doing so we were able to significantly reduce
costs while still maintaining the exceptional levels of quality in
terms of design, content, translation and production values that
our readers had come to associate with the magazine.'

Rhapsody provided efficiencies
by utilising its creative and
production teams in London and
Poland to design and illustrate
the magazine, as well as its team
of highly skilled fashion editors,
sub-editors and translators.

SHOP also utilised Rhapsody's bespoke online flatplan
management and publishing platforms to take the magazines from
inception to fruition. Rather than working with several
international printers as Global Blue had previously, Rhapsody was able to
draw upon the printing capabilities of its parent company
Walstead and print at a reduced rate in Poland, while still ensuring
the highest paper quality.
